A KEY QUESTION
Leave knowing what is proposed, why, what it costs and what happens next.
Prepare your questions
Write down your concerns, goals, budget and available time. Ask how to share records securely; avoid putting a detailed medical history in an initial website message.
- What matters most to me?
- What must I understand before deciding?

Share symptoms and support needs
Prepare your medicines list, health conditions and dental history. Include pain, bleeding gums or chewing problems even if your main goal is cosmetic.
Tell the team about anxiety, communication or access needs. Agree how to ask for a pause. Ask which existing records or X-rays would help; the dentist should decide what new imaging is needed.
Understand the recommendation
Ask what is proposed for each tooth and why. Discuss preparation, complications, limitations and alternatives, including waiting or no treatment. Photos can explain your preferences but cannot establish suitability.
- Who will treat me, and how can I check their credentials?
- Could a less invasive option work?
- What could change after examination or imaging?
Prepare questions about dental X-rays and CBCT and why a particular investigation is proposed.

Check costs and timing
Request a written quote covering materials, temporary and final restorations, appointments and additional charges. Confirm the number of visits, any healing interval and what could change the plan. Read payment, cancellation and refund terms before a deposit.
- What is included and excluded?
- Does the price cover every stage?
- Are travel and accommodation separate?
Take the checklist for comparing dental quotes into your consultation to identify omissions and ask for clarification.
Compare the written proposal with the treatment-by-treatment quote scope checklist. Check the tooth or arch count, materials, included appointments and separately priced items before agreeing to a total.
Agree aftercare
Get a clinical contact, review arrangements and instructions for concerns at home. Confirm who pays for further care or return travel, and read any warranty conditions. Request treatment records and care instructions.
Keep the answers. You can seek clarification or an independent opinion before agreeing. The question selector below creates a shorter list for your consultation.
Read our guide to planning dental aftercare before travelling to record who provides follow-up and how to contact them.
Check your understanding
Explain the plan back in your own words: the problem, proposed treatment, main risks and alternatives. Ask the dentist to correct misunderstandings, including what happens if you wait. Consent should be informed and voluntary; a signed form does not resolve unanswered questions.

A little time. A clearer decision.
Keep your questions, alternatives and written quote together. If something is unclear, ask for an explanation before you decide.
