UNDERSTAND CROWN MATERIALS

Zirconia vs Emax crowns

Zirconia and lithium disilicate are different ceramics. “Emax” is a product family that includes both, so ask which material the dentist means and why your tooth needs a crown.

Planning treatment in Antalya? Zirconia crowns from £160 per crown. Your dentist confirms suitability and the full written quote.

A KEY QUESTION

Get the exact material, product and crown design in writing.

At a glance.

Compare specified materials, rather than relying on a brand label
Question Zirconia proposal Lithium-disilicate proposal
What is it? A zirconium-oxide ceramic; request the exact product. A glass-ceramic; IPS e.max CAD and Press are examples.
What does Emax mean? The e.max family also includes ZirCAD zirconia. Confirm that lithium disilicate is what the quote means.
Why this design? Ask how the proposed crown suits the tooth and bite. Ask how the proposed crown suits the tooth and bite.
What should I compare? Preparation, appearance, fitting and repair arrangements. Preparation, appearance, fitting and repair arrangements.

General differences to discuss with your dentist. This comparison does not determine which treatment is suitable for you.

01

What does Emax mean?

IPS e.max CAD and Press are lithium-disilicate glass-ceramics; ZirCAD products are zirconia. Ask for the full product name in your plan. These examples explain terminology, not which brands the treating dental provider uses or recommends.

02

Does the tooth need a crown?

A crown covers a reshaped tooth and may be used when it is badly broken or weakened. Ask whether a filling, partial-coverage restoration or veneer could meet the need. Request a reason for each crown; a “premium” material does not justify treatment.

Before choosing a material, compare fillings, inlays, onlays and crowns and ask how much sound tooth each option preserves.

03

Appearance and bite

Shade, translucency, the underlying tooth and neighbouring teeth affect appearance. Tell the dentist about grinding, clenching, fractures or an uneven bite. Material choice needs an assessment, not a simple front-teeth or back-teeth rule.

  • How will you check the shade?
  • How will you check my bite before and after fitting?

Preparation and fitting

THE DETAILS TO UNDERSTAND

Ask how much tooth each suitable design would remove: preparation is irreversible. Check whether the crown is one ceramic body or has a separate surface layer, and why. Agree how to review its shape, shade and bite before final acceptance.

A reading map for this section. General information; discuss your individual circumstances with the appropriate clinician.

The crown planning and fitting steps place material choice alongside assessment, preparation, temporary teeth and bite checks. Ask which appointments and reviews your own plan includes.

Crown prices in Turkey: what does “zirconium” mean?

If a quote says “zirconium”, ask whether it means zirconia and request the full product name. Compare the same number of crown or bridge units, and confirm preparation, temporary work, fitting and any additional treatment in writing.

Ask who assesses chips, looseness or poor fit, what repairs may be possible and who pays. No material guarantees a lifespan.

For Antalya treatment, itemise laboratory work, temporaries, fitting and reviews. Confirm what happens if a fitting concern delays departure and how follow-up works at home.

Use the two-quote comparison worksheet to compare the same tooth count, proposed materials, temporary work, fitting and reviews. A lower entered total does not establish the more suitable material.

Which shade would you choose?

Use examples to explain the appearance you prefer. Discuss colour, shape and finish with your dentist; a screen image is not a shade match.
