A KEY QUESTION
Suspected infection needs local dental care. Do not wait for overseas treatment.
At a glance.
| What to discuss | Root canal treatment | Extraction |
|---|---|---|
| Aim | Treat infection inside a tooth that may be retained. | Remove the affected tooth. |
| Assessment | Can the canals be treated and the tooth restored? | Why is removal recommended and what are the risks? |
| Later stages | Final restoration and healing reviews. | Healing review and a separate discussion about the gap. |
| Contingency | What if infection persists or the tooth cannot be restored? | Is replacement needed, and which options are suitable? |
General differences to discuss with your dentist. This comparison does not determine which treatment is suitable for you.
Get urgent help locally
A suspected abscess needs urgent dental care. Contact a local dentist; in the UK, NHS 111 can help if you cannot get an urgent appointment. Do not wait for travel or an enquiry reply.
Difficulty breathing, speaking or swallowing, major mouth swelling, eye swelling or vision changes, or marked difficulty opening your mouth need emergency help. In the UK, call 999 or go to A&E; elsewhere use local emergency services.
Can the tooth be saved?
The dentist checks the tooth and supporting tissues with tests and imaging where needed. Cracks, remaining tooth and canal access affect treatment. Findings can change during treatment. Ask what remains uncertain, whether specialist advice would help and why removal is recommended, if proposed.
Root canal and crown costs in Turkey: what is included?
The dentist removes infected tissue, cleans and fills the canals, then seals the tooth. Local anaesthetic is normally used; several visits may be needed. The final restoration may be a filling, onlay or crown, depending on the tooth.
- Who completes the final restoration, and when?
- Will I have a temporary filling?
- Who checks healing and arranges further care?
If a build-up is proposed after root canal treatment, read what a post and core before a crown means and why it is different from an implant.

Options after extraction
An implant is not automatic. Depending on the gap, options may include a bridge, denture, implant or no replacement. Compare effects on neighbouring teeth, chewing, cleaning and appointments. Itemise extraction and replacement separately.
A wisdom tooth involves a different assessment. Read about wisdom tooth assessment, removal and travel rather than assuming the same replacement plan applies.
Reviews and changes of plan
Persistent infection may need retreatment, surgery or extraction. Agree how changes will be discussed and request records for follow-up.
Confirm service availability directly. Best Smile Turkey coordinates enquiries; the treating dental team provides treatment. Neither travel planning nor remote advice should delay urgent local care.
