A KEY QUESTION
Get written instructions naming the cleanser, brushing method, soak time and overnight storage.
Identify the materials
Ask whether the denture contains metal, a temporary soft liner or a longer-term lining. Keep those details with your instructions. A product labelled for dentures may not suit every part. Request a suitable alternative if the recommended cleaner is unavailable.

Brush gently
Use the recommended brush and cleanser outside your mouth. Many conventional dentures suit a soft brush and non-abrasive cleaner. Work over a towel or water-filled basin in case of a drop. Clean gum-facing surfaces too, following liner instructions. Rinse thoroughly. Avoid abrasive pastes, harsh household cleaners, hot water and sharp scraping tools.

Check before soaking
Use the correct concentration and contact time, then rinse before reinserting. Denture cleaner is not mouthwash; keep it away from food and drink. Chlorine-containing products can corrode metal, and some methods damage soft liners. Confirm whether soaking and brushing are suitable for each part.
Overnight removal and storage
Dentures normally come out for sleep, unless your dentist gives different instructions, such as after extraction. Confirm when any exception ends. Use a secure, labelled container. Many dentures are stored in cool water, but liner advice can differ. A short cleanser soak does not mean overnight soaking is safe. Never use boiling water.
Care for your mouth
Brush remaining teeth with fluoride toothpaste and clean between them as advised. Ask how to clean gums, tongue and palate gently. Keep reviews even without natural teeth. Persistent redness, soreness, ulcers, changed fit or damage need assessment, rather than stronger chemicals or harder scrubbing.
