A KEY QUESTION

In Turkey, call 112 for a medical emergency; seek local dental assessment for urgent dental concerns.

01

Emergency help: call 112 in Turkey

Call 112 for severe mouth or neck swelling affecting breathing or swallowing, heavy mouth bleeding that will not stop, or serious face or jaw injury. Loss of consciousness after an injury also needs emergency medical help. Give your location and follow the operator’s instructions. Do not drive yourself or wait for a flight, clinic callback or WhatsApp reply. Outside Turkey, use local emergency services.

02

Get urgent dental assessment

Persistent or severe dental pain, increasing swelling, a knocked-out tooth, unexpected bleeding after extraction, or broken or loose dental work needs urgent dental advice. Contact the treating clinic’s clinical number. If unavailable, seek another local dental service. Use emergency services if symptoms become severe.

03

Explain what changed

Tell the clinician where the problem is, when it began and whether it is worsening. Mention recent treatment, injury, medicines and allergies. Bring records if readily available, but do not delay care to obtain them. Request communication support if needed.

04

Contact your insurer after seeking help

The FCDO advises promptly contacting your insurer or medical-assistance company when referred for treatment. Explain that the trip involves planned dentistry; cover depends on your policy. Administrative approval must not delay emergency care.

Questions for a clinical assessment

Seek the local care described above first. When you speak with the clinician, these questions may help you understand the plan.

  • Who should I contact after returning home, and how will reviews be arranged?
  • Will I receive my treatment records and written care instructions?
  • Who pays if further treatment or another trip is needed?

Common questions

Use local Turkish services while in Turkey. NHS 111 is not the local emergency or dental booking route there.

Call emergency services first when serious symptoms require them. Seek insurance assistance promptly without delaying urgent help.

Do not rely on that if symptoms need urgent assessment. Seek local care, and use emergency services for serious warning signs.

GOV.UK states that GHICs and EHICs are not valid in Turkey. Check the cover and exclusions of your own insurance.
