A KEY QUESTION
Leave active treatment with a maintenance provider, review date and records of any sites that still need attention.
Moving into maintenance
At reassessment, find out which areas are stable and whether any still need active treatment. Maintenance combines home care and risk-factor management with professional monitoring and treatment when needed. Record the current findings and date so later visits can be compared.
What the visit covers
A maintenance visit may include a health update, review of cleaning, gum assessment and professional treatment. Tell the practice you have had periodontitis when booking. A short polishing appointment may not allow enough time for the care your plan requires.

Your review interval
Recall should reflect the risk of disease progression and be reviewed over time. Residual pockets, inflammation, cleaning and health changes can affect it. Discuss cost, travel or other attendance difficulties early so the team can explain the implications and arrange workable care.
Preparing for a review
Bring an updated medicines list and mention new health information, bleeding or changes in cleaning access. Explain difficulties honestly. A brief comparison with previous findings helps show what needs action, and any new cleaning instructions should be easy to follow at home.
Changes between visits
Get dental advice about new or increasing bleeding, swelling, persistent discomfort or tooth movement. Severe symptoms need prompt local care. Gum disease may also be painless, so feeling well does not replace scheduled monitoring. Tell your usual team about treatment elsewhere.
Changing practices
Request your diagnosis, treatment dates, latest chart, relevant images and care instructions. Confirm that the receiving practice can provide the recommended programme, including the first appointment and fees. When care spans countries, agree who monitors the gums and who reviews restorations.
If care spans Antalya and the UK, use the UK follow-up planning checklist to confirm a local provider, records, review appointments and fees. Best Smile Turkey coordinates arrangements; your dental team provides clinical care.
