A KEY QUESTION
Ask which site needs treatment, why, and how it changes the implant plan.
At a glance.
| Check | Bone graft | Sinus lift |
|---|---|---|
| Site | Where bone needs building up | Upper back jaw beneath the sinus |
| Timing | With implants or a separate stage | With implants or a separate stage |

Ask to see the findings
Implants need enough supporting bone. Ask the dentist to show the proposed site on your imaging and explain how much bone is needed. A smile photograph cannot establish this. Discuss the proposed solution, limitations and alternatives.
Understand the sinus lift
The maxillary sinuses are air-filled spaces above the upper back teeth. Raising the lining creates room for bone beneath it. Internal and external approaches differ; existing bone affects the approach and whether implants can be placed at the same operation. Confirm the side and tooth positions.
Check material origins
Grafts can use your own bone, human donor, animal-derived or synthetic material. A membrane may have a different origin. Raise religious, ethical or personal concerns before agreeing.
- What are the product names and sources?
- Would using my own bone require a second surgical site?
- What suitable alternatives are available?

Allow for healing
Some grafts can be placed with implants; others need to heal first. Treatment through to the final restoration may take several months. Request the sequence of grafting, review, implant placement and final teeth. Ask who confirms healing and what could delay travel.
Discuss risks and alternatives
Risks include infection, graft failure or insufficient new bone. A sinus lift can damage the sinus lining. Ask how your health and smoking affect the risks.
Depending on assessment, alternatives may include another implant approach, a bridge, a removable denture or leaving the gap. Compare function and future care.
How could bone grafting affect an implant treatment plan and its cost?
Best Smile Turkey coordinates enquiries; the treating dental team provides treatment. Confirm procedure availability with the treating dentist, along with recovery instructions and any travel restrictions.
- Site, material and responsible clinician
- Extra charges and reviews
- Clinical contact for recovery concerns
- Plan and costs if treatment cannot proceed
Read the implant price and scope checklist alongside your grafting proposal. Ask the provider to itemise any additional procedures, materials, reviews and travel changes in writing.
Place any additional procedure within the wider implant treatment stages. Have the dentist confirm which stages, reviews and return visits apply to your own plan before booking travel.
