A KEY QUESTION
Agree a practical role together, while keeping treatment decisions and clinical advice with you and the treating team.
Choose the help you want.
You might want company in the waiting room, help with appointment times or someone to organise food afterwards. Agree who does what, taking account of your companion’s own commitments and ability to stay longer if plans change.
For appointments, give them your main questions beforehand. If they take notes, review these together against the written treatment plan afterwards.
Decide what stays private.
Tell the dental team whether your companion may join the consultation and receive clinical information. You can request time alone with the dentist. Paying for the trip does not automatically give someone authority over your care.
If language support is needed, arrange suitable interpretation through the provider. A companion’s conversational language skills may not be enough for a complex consent discussion. The GDC privacy principles cited below apply to UK professionals, not Turkish law.
Plan transport, meals and a possible delay.
Check whether accommodation and transport bookings include the extra person and any additional charges. Consider room access, suitable food and a back-up way to reach the clinic.
Agree what you would do if an appointment moves, either person becomes unwell or the stay is extended. Keep booking details and the accommodation address accessible to both of you.

Check clinical escort requirements separately.
A voluntary travel companion is different from an escort or supervisor required for sedation or a particular procedure. Get the treating team’s actual instructions before assuming your arrangement meets them.
Your companion needs to understand and accept any responsibilities. Clarify discharge, transport and supervision requirements with the clinician; this guide cannot establish whether a particular person is suitable.
Keep clinical contacts to hand.
Obtain written care instructions and the treating team’s contact route. A companion can help explain a change or make a call, but should not diagnose symptoms or alter medicine instructions.
Best Smile Turkey coordinates enquiries as an intermediary. Clinical questions belong with the treating provider. Know how to obtain local professional help if the original team cannot be reached.
